The abstention of eating fish or meat was known as "Pythagorean diet" until the name "vegetarianism" was coined in the 19th century. "Vegetarian" derives from the Latin word "vegetus", which means "vigorous" or "lively". The Vegetarian Society was founded by Reverend William Cowherd, a Methodist Christian, in Manchester in 1847. All is one and one is all.
